Tianjin is one of the four municipalities in China. Its name means 'the place where the emperor crossed the river'. Facing the Bohai Sea, Tianjin, the one time imperial port, serves as Beijing's vital gateway to the sea. In recent years Tianjin receives more and more attention from tourists due to its illustrious historical heritage and other travel resources.

Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, Tianjin University (TU) is the first university in China. TU has been a National Key University since 1959 when the first 16 universities were so designated by the government. It is also among the first group of universities to be included into the "211" and "985" Projects of national investment for developing world class universities.

Tianjin Eye is a giant Ferris wheel built across the Haihe river with a diameter of 110m, providing 512 seats for tourists. A round journey ride requires 30 minutes with an excellent view of Tianjin reaching as far as 40 km at the top of the wheel.

Gulou, built in Ming Dynasty (1493AD) is one of the main tourist attractions in Tianjin, located at the end of ancient cultural street, where tourists can find good bargains for traditional Chinese goods, such as clothes, paintings, souvenirs etc.
