Local Currency & Credit Cards

The RMB (Renminbi) is the official currency. The basic unit of RMB is the yuan (¥). Shenzhen Branch of Bank of China offers currency exchange service, remenber your passport is needed to be presented when converting currency in the bank. Most hotels, restaurants and large shops take Visa and Mastercard, and Visa & Mastercard debit cards can withdraw RMB on automatic teller machines in commercial banks.

Electricity

The voltage is 220-240V/50Hz. Most of the hotels in China have both 110V and 220V electrical outlets in the bathrooms, though in guest rooms usually only 220V sockets are available. As the shape of a socket varies between countries, a portable plug adaptor may also be necessary.
The socket on the right will be found in most of the hotel of shenzhen, but some hotel also provide universal sockets.

Weather

Due to its subtropical climate, Shenzhen weather is mild with plenty of sunshine and rainfall all year round. Summer in this city usually lasts for as long as 6 months, but without being overly hot. In comparison, winter is very short and not cold at all. However, it should be noted that the city is located at the estuary of the Pearl River and is therefore an area susceptible to typhoons. Generally most typhoons occur from May to December with the strongest from July to September.

Subway

Taxi

You can get a taxi anywhere in Shenzhen, but don't hail a taxi in the non-stop area. There are three types of taxis in the city, the Red, Yellow and Green taxis. The green taxis are only allowed to operate outside the Special Economic Zone.

- Taxi Fare inside the Special Economic Zone:
  1. CNY10 flag drop (first 2 kilometers), an additional charge of 30% of the taxi fare would be additionally charged for the part beyond 25 kilometers (23:00—06:00)
  2. CNY0.6 for each additional 250 meters (CNY2.4 per kilometer)
  3. CNY0.8 for each 1 minute waiting
  4. CNY3 fuel surcharge should be paid per journey.
- Taxi Fare outside the Special Economic Zone
  1. CNY6 flag drop (first 1.5 kilometers, Green Taxi), CNY10 flag drop (first 2 kilometers, Red and Yellow taxi)
  2. CNY2.4 for each additional kilometer. For Green Red, and Yellow Taxis, an additional charge of 30% of the taxi fare would be for travel beyond 25 kilometers (06:00—23:00).
  3. CNY0.8 for each 1 minute idling
  4. CNY3 fuel surcharge should be paid per journey.

Bus

With nearly 900 bus lines and close to 50000 buses, Shenzhen has a well developed city bus system. The large amount of vehicles exerts a lot of pressure on Shenzhen's transport system at present, especially during rush hour. Therefore, visitors should take into account the traffic congestion when planning their schedule.
